The Nicastro Family in Ottawa
It all started in 1972 when the Nicastro brothers opened their first store on Gladstone Avenue in little Italy. This store at first catered to Italian immigrant families in the area, but soon grew in popularity and became Ottawa’s favourite Italian grocer.

This picture shows Joe Nicastro, caring for his fathers store in Italy. The Nicastro brothers eventually opened their store on Merivale Road, to capture the growing Italian population in that area. Joe, Rocco and Frank Nicastro can still be found at Nicastro’s on Merivale Road in Ottawa.
